About the Department of Geotechnology
The Department of Geotechnology was originally established as the Department of Geology under the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University in 1975. The department admitted the first group of students in 1976. Later in 1984, the department moved to be under the Faculty of Technology and changed its name to the Department of Geotechnology. At present, the department offers degree programmes in bachelor, master, and doctorate levels, focusing on geology, engineering geology, and applied geology.

From our founding day to date, the department has produced hundreds of graduate students to join the work force in various organizations related to geology and geotechnology.

Today, our family consists of 11 faculty members, 8 supporting staff, 155 undergraduate students, and 12 graduate students.

Apart from teaching and research, we also provide services on geophysical exploration, geotechnical testing of rocks and soils, water quality testing, and petrographic analysis of thin sections under the optical microscope.

Our Proud Achievements
We have a large number of successful accomplishments which we are proud to present. Among many of those is Mr. Chote Trachu, whom is a Geotech alumni, was nominated Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2010.

Another achievement is from a group of Geotech students who won the 1st place in the 2012 Asia Pacific Region and the 2nd place in the 2012 AAPG Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) competition.
